TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF (FAMILY, JOB, SPORTS, MILITARY, INTERESTS, ETC.):

I have been married to my husband, Ron, for 10 years and we have 2 kids, Jaxon (3) and Emilie (18 mos). The kids have single-handedly removed the word “bored” from my vocabulary. I have lived in the Stevens Point area almost my entire life, with the exception of 1 year in Florida. I work for one of our family-owned businesses, Rudy Rack. Nothing beats getting to work with your friends every day and having the flexibility to leave work to WOD at 12:30! After I gave birth to my daughter, I realized that if I wanted my kids to grow up healthy I needed to set a good example. Enter CrossFit.

FITNESS BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE

I was never a “team” sport kid. My family did a lot of individual sports such as snowboarding, wakeboarding, roller hockey, etc. As I got older, the opportunities to do these sports weren’t as frequent. In my adult years, I went to the gym a lot and achieved very little.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CROSSFIT?

I was part of the first CFSP Fundamentals class in June, 2013. I started exactly 8 weeks after having Emilie.

HOW HAS CROSSFIT CHANGED YOUR LIFE

CrossFit has completely changed my attitude toward fitness and working out. It isn’t a chore anymore. It’s like I get to play with my friends for an hour a day. Crossfit has changed my mentality about body image as well. I never would have worn yoga pants prior to CrossFit because I thought my legs were too fat. Now, I look at them as “strong” and not “big ol’ stumps.” Strong is the new skinny. The CrossFit community has been a huge support system as well. It is so refreshing to be around people who have a similar mindset in regards to health and fitness.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WOD?

Filthy Fifty. It’s fun to work through a list of tasks.

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE WOD?

Anything involving running. Running a mile strikes more fear in me than a 30 minute AMRAP.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LIFT?

Deadlifts because I’m pretty good at them and box jumps because they makes me feel like a ninja.

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE LIFT?

Handstands/headstands. It makes me feel clumsy.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE CROSSFIT?

Prior to becoming pregnant with my first kid, I was in the best shape of my adult life as a result of doing 5-10 hours of Spin Class and cycling a week. After kids, I simply didn’t have as much time to devote to working out as I did before.

WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS AFTER YOUR FIRST CROSSFIT WORKOUT?

“Whoa. I’m in worse shape than I thought. I can’t believe I can’t run 1⁄4 of a mile.”

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A NEWBIE JUST JOINING CROSSFIT?

Put the ego aside. It’s ok to come in last. Don’t run away from it because it’s hard; stick with it because it’s hard.

Tell us a little about yourself (FAMILY, JOB, SPORTS, MILITARY, INTERESTS, ETC.)

I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point with a degree in Health Wellness Management. My passion is changing and creating lifestyle habits. I love people and get to do what I love everyday. I have an athletics back round and was a three sport athlete in high school. CrossFit has filled the competitive void I was missing post graduation. I enjoy other activities like golfing, boating, and anything outside. Wisconsin winters are no fun!!

Fitness Background/Experience before CrossFit:

Like many prior to crossfit I spent time at the local 24 hour fitness center doing non-functional movements mixed in with the cardio at pretty low intensity. In high school I was a three sport athlete all four years (soccer, basketball, and golf).

How long have you been doing Crossfit?

I started CrossFit in the fall of 2013.

How has CrossFit changed your life?

CrossFit has challenged me in ways I haven’t been before. I find myself in a never ending mental battle during workouts that has given me a different outlook on life. The daily hassles and challenges of my life are now becoming minor inconveniences that I am taking as a challenge. I have stepped out of my comfort zone along with many more at CFSP and found something that works for me and keeps me humble. The coaching staff and community at CFSP could not have been more welcoming and friendly to me as I started my journey into this fitness craze.

What is your favorite WOD?

“DT”

What is your least favorite WOD?

“Fight Gone Bad”- It hurts, A LOT.

What is your favorite skill?

Handstand push ups, handstand holds/walk

What is your least favorite skill?

Pistols

What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout?

And I thought I was in good shape?

What would your advice be to someone just starting CrossFit?

Don’t be intimidated by the athletes you see on TV that make up 1% of the crossfit population. Crossfit is designed for anyone and everyone no matter your background. Enjoy the workouts and the community and try not to get too wrapped up in the competitive nature of crossfit.

Tell us a little about yourself (FAMILY, JOB, SPORTS, MILITARY, INTERESTS, ETC.)

Bill has overcome his own struggle with obesity with a balanced approach to life, diet, and exercise allowing him to maintain a healthy lifestyle and also find his passion in personal wellness. He is currently finishing his Bachelors degree in Athletic Training at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.

With 5 years of experience in Personal Health and Wellness, Bill is determined to motivate others towards living healthier.

Fitness Background/Experience before CrossFit:

I was the short, fat kid who never found athletics to be that appealing. After high school I started exercising and eating healthy, tried the typical gym routine and was bored to death. Tried out CrossFit with a friend and haven’t looked back since.

How long have you been doing Crossfit?

I started in the spring of 2012 and the transformation wasn’t overnight, it wasn’t easy, but it has been nothing short of amazing both mentally and physically.

How has CrossFit changed your life?

It has shown me and everyone I coach that the body is capable of amazing things. I have seen CrossFit forge strong people and even stronger friendships.

What is your favorite WOD?

Anything on a hot summer day, where you’re pushed to an uncomfortable place and it’s only your thoughts and the next rep. It takes a real challenge both mentally and physically to change yourself. After one of those WOD’s you appreciate the little things that much more.

What is your least favorite WOD?

BBH – 5 RFT – 15 Deadlifts + 12 Power Cleans + 9 Front Squat + 6 Push Press @ 135# My first CrossFit WOD, and to this day the one I dread the most.

What is your favorite skill?

Deadlifts or Cleans – the feeling of successfully pulling under a heavy barbell and bouncing out of the pocket is a great feeling.

What is your least favorite skill?

Pistols. My ankle ROM is a problem, but I am making progress.

What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout?

I need a glass of water, a safe place to lay down, and that I can’t wait to do it again.

What would your advice be to someone just starting CrossFit?

Do yourself a favor and stop making excuses, get out of your own way. Realize that there is no cheat, the 3 step approach to a real and lasting life style change doesn’t exist. To also have fun with it, not every day will be a PR, but one day you will wake up and not recognize the person in the mirror.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF (FAMILY, JOB, SPORTS, MILITARY, INTERESTS, ETC.):

I am married to Greg and we have two children. Our son, Bailey, is 15 and our daughter, Jordan, is 11. They are both great kids and great athletes. I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education and currently teach First Grade. In addition to CrossFit, I also enjoy running and biking. Other interests include shopping, traveling, and hanging at the beach!

FITNESS BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE

Fitness is important to me. I have always enjoyed running, especially shorter and middle distances. That passion now continues through my children, who both love to run. I continue to enjoy participating in community runs and other events such as triathalons and the Tough Mudder. I really have a strong belief in functional fitness, and even when training as a traditional personal trainer, I use functional movements that emphasize core strength. CrossFit is a perfect match for me as it’s whole premise revolves around “constantly varied, functional movements, executed at high intensity.”

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CROSSFIT?

I have been Crossfitting for over a year…I visited an affiliate in March 2012 and was hooked! Shortly after that I met Scott and started joining him for workouts.

HOW HAS CROSSFIT CHANGED YOUR LIFE

CrossFit has provided me with a supportive community of people who have become my second family, people whom I trust and admire and rely on to help me not only get through tough workouts, but also life’s challenges. Crossfit has become something that is one of the best parts of my day even though physically, and sometimes mentally, it is the toughest. I am a happier, more confident, and more physically fit girl because of CrossFit!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WOD?

Barbara (My daughter thought I had named it after her…Her middle name and my grandma’s name…lol)
Cindy

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE WOD?

Anything at 4:30 in the morning!!!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LIFT?

Power Clean and Front Squat

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE LIFT?

Snatch…only because it’s my toughest one… I want to get better at it!

WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE CROSSFIT?

I did interval running, road biking, Body Pump, Spin, general weight training, and some group personal training.

WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS AFTER YOUR FIRST CROSSFIT WORKOUT?

I thought, “That was AWESOME!!!!! I loved it!!!” I wanted more…. It was exactly what I enjoyed…pushing myself to the limit and competing with myself, knowing that the body can do more than the mind thinks it can!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A NEWBIE JUST JOINING CROSSFIT?

I would say to never give up…you can achieve more than you ever imagined through the supportive CrossFit community made up of caring coaches and athletes of all abilities. You will experience an overwhelming sense of belonging and an amazing amount of pride in yourself, your fellow athletes, and your “box.”

I just recently turned 27. My parents and I own King Cone Homemade Ice Cream. I’ve been selling ice cream for 9 years now. I don’t really play any sports any more, but I did play football both in high school and a little bit in college, I also wrestled in high school, hence the short stocky frame and kind of broad shoulders that I have!! I also invest in the stock market in my free time.

Fitness Background/Experience before CrossFit:

I started lifting in 7th grade. Football and wrestling with a little bit of track and field in high school, 3 years of college football and lots of time in the weight room, not a fan of running, but bicycling is great. Also have done p90x and insanity.

How long have you been doing Crossfit?

I started in December 2013

How has CrossFit changed your life?

Crossfit has changed my life drastically, everything from my strength and flexibility, to the amazing community of people that I have meet in these 6 months. By far one of the best experiences I have ever had when it comes to fitness. Looking forward to what the future has to hold!!

What is your favorite WOD?

Any WOD that has cleans in it!!

What is your least favorite WOD?

Any WOD that has running in it, my short legs don’t help at all!!

What is your favorite skill?

hang clean, or jumping rope (SU)

What is your least favorite skill?

pistols, snatch, and running

What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout?

“Holy crap I’m out of shape, what did I get myself into!!” But I knew this is what I wanted, and that i could do it!!

What would your advice be to someone just starting CrossFit?

Take your time, transformations don’t happen over night, and if you ever want help don’t be afraid to ask, I’m always willing to give my best advice. Stick to it, I never would have thought that in 6 short months how far I have come, and everyone else in the community as well, you all ROCK!!

Tell us a little about yourself (FAMILY, JOB, SPORTS, MILITARY, INTERESTS, ETC.)

I am an RN on the Neuro/Trauma unit at St Joseph’s Hospital. I also bartend at Father Fats and am a new Coach at the box. Basically I love to be around people and I love helping others. At one time I was a personal trainer which is how I came across Crossfit. The only sport I was any good at was gymnastics, which I had to quit at a young age due to an injury, which left me with no sport. Enter Crossfit a lifetime later.

Fitness Background/Experience before CrossFit:

I started personal training after a new journey for myself to lose weight, get healthy, stop binge drinking and eating. Through some of my training colleagues I was introduced to Crossfit Stevens Point. I get to learn how to lift heavy stuff and incorporate gymnastics!? Dream come true for me, I missed gymnastics so much and I love lifting. I will never go back to a typical gym.. Snore.

How long have you been doing Crossfit?

I’ve been doing Crossfit for 2 1/2 years now.

How has CrossFit changed your life?

Crossfit has showed me how much people need to move in life in order to live! I now see every day how every single person could benefit from it. You pick something off the ground and put it on as shelf at home.. Hmm.. Deadlift.. Clean.. Press. Yet so many people can not complete these simple movements with just 10 lbs. Crossfit has made me a healthier, stronger person inside and out who can handle any obstacle.

What is your favorite WOD?

My favorite wod is anything with a squat involved. My legs are crazy strong so I’m good at any version of them.

What is your least favorite WOD?

My least favorite is anything on the rig, I struggle so much with anything on the rig.

What is your favorite skill?

Favorite skill would have to be overhead squats and handstand push ups. They are hard but I’m pretty good at them so they are rewarding for me.

What is your least favorite skill?

Least favorite skill is definitely pull ups.

What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout?

After my first Crossfit workout I thought I was so weak and all I wanted after that day was to never feel that way again!

What would your advice be to someone just starting CrossFit?

If your just starting Crossfit I would keep in mind that it is a humbling experience, and to keep at it and keep an open mind. It is the most fun and challenging thing I have ever done. And amazingly rewarding. Remember though we have to fail before we get better or we learn nothing.

I could also never live without my Crossfit family, they push me, mind and body every time I step in the door.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CROSSFIT?

After a much anticipated wait for a Crossfit to come to the area, I began my Crossfit journey in January 2013.

HOW HAS CROSSFIT CHANGED YOUR LIFE

How hasn’t Crossfit changed my life?! After having back to back babies, my body was in distress and needed a violent push to get my strength back. Not only was I able to gain my strength back, I’ve exceeded my original goals and expectations of where I thought I’d be in a year after having a baby and then some. I have always dreaded working out. My workout routines were boring, monotonous, and I definitely did not look forward to going to the gym. Enter Crossfit … I crave and truly cherish being able to wake up and start my days off with seeing my Crossfit family and pushing myself to places I never thought I could go physically and mentally. I never, in a million years, thought I’d actually be excited to wake up at 4 am every day to workout.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WOD?

The Sevens – I will never forget this WOD. It pushed me as much mentally as it did physically and I stood a little taller that day as I didn’t think I would get through it after the 4th round.

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE WOD?

Any 30 minute or more AMRAP

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LIFT?

Deadlift – a functionally sound movement that delivers such a quick boost in general strength

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE LIFT?

Snatch – such a complex movement that I need to continually strengthen

WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE CROSSFIT?

I’ve been an athlete my entire life from being a three season athlete in high school to playing basketball in college then playing any recreational sports I could find in my adult life. I had also been caught up in routine when I did actually workout which was not focused on constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensity. The combination of those three has truly brought me to being the most strong and fit I’ve ever been.

WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS AFTER YOUR FIRST CROSSFIT WORKOUT?

“Where have you been all my life?”

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A NEWBIE JUST JOINING CROSSFIT?

Have patience and work on being better than you were the day before (aka. Leave your ego at the door – Crossfit will humble the hell out of you)
